Why the old flow frustrated teachers
The previous attendance screen required four taps to reach: Menu → Academics → Attendance → Select Class. For a teacher marking attendance six times a day across periods, that's 24 taps before any actual work starts.
The new flow surfaces today's periods directly on the dashboard. One tap opens the attendance sheet for the current period.
What changed
Absent-first marking. The redesigned screen defaults every student to Present and asks teachers to tap only the absent students. For a class of 38 where 2 are absent, you make 2 taps instead of 38.
Biometric sync. For schools with ESSL or ZKTeco devices, the screen pre-populates biometric check-in status. Teachers review, correct exceptions, and submit.
Period detection. The app reads the current timetable and offers the correct period for marking automatically. Teachers no longer need to remember whether it's Period 3 or Period 4.
The three-minute walkthrough
1. Open the staff app. Today's periods appear on the dashboard below the clock-in widget.
2. Tap the current period. The class list opens with all students marked Present.
3. Tap any student to toggle to Absent. Add a remark if needed.
4. Tap Submit. Parents of absent students receive push notifications within 30 seconds.
That's it. The entire interaction for a 40-student class takes under 90 seconds.
What teachers asked for that we added
Late arrival marking — tap a student, choose "Late" instead of "Absent". The parent gets a "arrived late" notification.
Half-day marking — for students who leave early due to medical or family reasons.
Undo — if you accidentally tap the wrong student, the undo button on the confirmation screen reverses the last 5 changes before submission.
